Strange Game Listing

EB Games has put up a listing for a Wii game called Legend of Spyro: Darkest Hour. Take this with the hugest grain of salt (heck, take the whole shaker with you). This is purely speculative and more than likely a mistake. It's just funny that they say it could ship in 24 hours.

This may or may not be the game's title. Following yesterday's announcement of The Legend of Spyro 3, seeing something along these lines make sense but don't jump to any conclusions just yet.

EB Games also updated their listings with Crash: Invasion of the Bandicoot Snatchers for multiple consoles. Spyro and Crash games are oft announced together. Is this a sign of some truth behind this name?

Obviously the ESRB rating stands at RP (Rating Pending). They claim pre-release ships on 10/7/08. The game is listed as "Action, Adventure".

If these listings were true, the game will be coming out for the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS and Wii. Where's the X-Box 360 listing that would coincide with yesterday's surfacing of TLoS 3 information? Again, don't get excited yet - this is all purely speculative in nature.

As GoNintendo said: Nothing confirmed just yet, but GameStop isn’t pulling these names out of thin air.

Click for the listings.

Siliconera is the only other site to have taken notice of this yet besides GoNintendo.

Thanks goes to Jump Button at Sierra Forum for the find!

TLoS 3 Announced!

Click for full-sized version.

What you see above is the first piece of concept art for The Legend of Spyro 3. I bet that's the Dark Master behind Spyro!

Velvet Octopus, who is dealing with the devlopment of the Spyro movie has dropped the first bits of information on the game:

Quote:

The Legend of Spyro: Part III (final title TBD)

First appearance on PlayStation 3 and Xbox
360

Epic culmination of “Legend of Spyro” storyline
Spyro finally faces the Dark Master

Fly at any time – first free flight in a Spyro game

Co-op play with Cynder (female dragon)

Global release Oct/Nov 2008

This information has to come to us from a small slide show that discusses A New Beginning and Eternal Night as well as Spyro's gross profit over the years and his past games.

It should be noted that there is some confusion over what systems this will be on. The slide show simply mentions this is the first time a Spyro game will grace the PS3 and X-Box 360 systems, that doesn't in any way rule out a Wii or PS2 version. There have already been Spyro games for the Wii, PS2, and other systems, so more than likely that's why the other systems weren't mentioned.

Download the slide show with this information here.

Funny...they misspelled "Spyro" in the the site's title bar as "Spyru".

UPDATE: They fixed the title bar and removed the power point. Interesting.

The information has come early this year. The announcements for Spyro sequels usually leak in June/July so having come in February this time is a bit of a surprise....but who's complaining?!

At the same time, we have a new image from the Spyro movie:

Spyro looks strangely old in that image.

Thanks goes to Vitani333 from SpyroForum for the find.

Spyro Wikis Merger

In a strange twist of events, our 'enemy number one' per se, RaidonMakoto of that 'other Spyro wiki' is now a system operator of our wiki and from my understanding will slowly phase out the wiki that he had. For a while, our two wikis were butting-heads as Raidon and myself both wanted to succeed above each other which meant we were in direct competition. That is now all in the past. This merger is great for all of you, and all Spyro fans, because we now have a wiki literate person in charge. Neither Spyrorocks nor I were well versed in anything wiki-related. Raidon is.
Our two wikis presented a true catch-22. His wiki had many quality articles, images and proper coding (e.g. infoboxes) but had less than ten members. We here at SpyroWorld have nearly 1,000 members (just 16 to go as of right now) but our wiki lacked proper coding, and although it has over 100 articles...they lacked imagery, and the majority were under 50 bytes. Combining the expertise of Raidon, and his lengthy articles (not to mention images) with our large userbase, we will create the ultimate Spyro wiki - a truly unique, comprehensive compendium for all things Spyro. This is reason to celebrate!

Spyro Media Friday: Lesson Learned

This week we present to you an ad for Spyro 2: Ritpo's Rage. It was done in claymation and was meant to serve as a parody of those cartoons of yesteryear where the naughty boy who didn't do as he was told gets his comeuppance.

It's classic.

Hind Site: Newsflash

Welcome to the second edition of Hind Site, where we connect you to sites from Spyro's past that you may or may not have known about.

This week we offer one of the very first Spyro websites ever. The Dragon News Network. Created to promote the first Spyro game, Spyro the Dragon, it was set-up like an online newspaper with news, editorials and interviews. It offers interesting information bits that didn't appear in Insomniac's games. Some examples include how Insomniac said Spyro was born, the fact dragons had a currency called 'Dracos' (presumably these were coins) and also mentioned some locations not seen in the games. An all-around interesting site that luckily still exists.

Click here to be taken to the site.

Spyro Media Friday: Enter the Sheep

This week's Spyro Media Friday is yet another PlayStation Underground video, this time on the making of commercials for Spyro the Dragon involving Toasty, the sheep. They put a lot of work into making the ads and seeing how they did it is neat.

I hope you find this video to be not half baa-d.

...as an aside, here's some Toasty the sheep resources:

Hind Site: The First Of Many

Well, this is the start of a new feature. While in our Spyro Media Friday feature we post the best Spyro videos out there, hand-selected by us, Hind Site (I'm not that into puns, seriously) is an opportunity for us to link you to old Spyro sites you may not have known were still hanging around. This won't be news, but we hope you still find it interesting.

First up: the website for the McDonald's promotion of A Hero's Tail. With a coloring book page and MSN/AOL buddy icons, this site has a few things you might enjoy checking out.

What do you think of this new feature? Will you check it out or don't you care? How was the first selection - interesting or no? Please leave a little comment, it's always appreciated!

Play The Neopets Spyro Games

Neopets has had several promotional games released to coincide with past Spyro games. Spyro: Shadow Legacy got a game called "Spyro: Magic Attack" and "Spyro & Crash" came out for Eternal Night, apparently. Although they've been removed from the Neopets site, they were archived FGN-Guild, a site devoted to collecting the Neopets games.

If you were interested in checking these out, here's the links:

Spyro & Crash

Have Fun!

GameSpot Finally Reviews TEN

Quote:
The game also throws in new and unnecessary gameplay elements while failing to offer anything truly refined. Spyro and his game have reached an awkward adolescence, and the resulting identity crisis is both frustrating to participate in and awkward to witness.

They gave it a 5 out of 10. Not great but still better than what IGN gave it. Sounds like they harped on all the same issues as all the other reviewers - felt too hard for what it was, wasn't adult or kiddish but in an uncomfortable medium, didn't give much update to what A New Beginning was.

I've been holding off on reviews lately but I know many people looked forward to what GameSpot would have to say for TEN so I decided to post it.

Read it all for yourself.

Like IGN, the review for both the PS2 and Wii version are identical. IGN actually added a little to their Wii version of the review, but GameSpot did not. The PS2 and Wii reviews are word-for-word the same.
