What you see above is the first piece of concept art for The Legend of Spyro 3. I bet that's the Dark Master behind Spyro!

Velvet Octopus, who is dealing with the devlopment of the Spyro movie has dropped the first bits of information on the game:

The Legend of Spyro: Part III (final title TBD) First appearance on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Epic culmination of “Legend of Spyro� storyline Spyro finally faces the Dark Master Fly at any time – first free flight in a Spyro game Co-op play with Cynder (female dragon) Global release Oct/Nov 2008

This information has to come to us from a small slide show that discusses A New Beginning and Eternal Night as well as Spyro's gross profit over the years and his past games.

It should be noted that there is some confusion over what systems this will be on. The slide show simply mentions this is the first time a Spyro game will grace the PS3 and X-Box 360 systems, that doesn't in any way rule out a Wii or PS2 version. There have already been Spyro games for the Wii, PS2, and other systems, so more than likely that's why the other systems weren't mentioned.

Funny...they misspelled "Spyro" in the the site's title bar as "Spyru".

UPDATE: They fixed the title bar and removed the power point. Interesting.

The information has come early this year. The announcements for Spyro sequels usually leak in June/July so having come in February this time is a bit of a surprise....but who's complaining?!

Spyro looks strangely old in that image.

Wasn't The Eternal Night given a February leaking too, WITH the aforementioned title? Still, I see what you mean. All the more to get appreciated for, and given they are the team behind the move we could see them as a reliable first source.

All we got to wait for now is the bigger leak by E3... which is ages off >.>

I don't think that's the Dark Master in the concept art. It's too small and fuzzy to be him. Looks more like a Dreadwing that's just taken some fire to the face.

Also, I am saddened. I can't extract the file from the site. Filzip just says it's not a valid .zip file. Anyone care to make an .html version, or send me the plain file? :)

I created a new subforum under "Upcoming Games" for LoS 3 and the Spyro Movie.

I may just be a cynic, but let me be the first to proclaim this is looking bad already. It completely betrays the Spyro plot formula by making him, well, OLD. I already don't like LoS, but seriously, this is just making me sad. [/cynicism]

We can't be too sure yet about Spyro's age in the game. On the past two sets of boxart for the Legend arc titles we've seen deciptions of Spyro that are either much younger (ANB) or much older (TEN) than portrayed in the game, so we can't see this as the defining stanza. The least we can do is just wait and see what happens.

That Dark Master looks a bit odd for me.
But Im still glad that its coming!!! o.O

i know for sure that the dark figure at the top is NOT the dark master. the dark master isn't black, he's a purple dragon like spyro. (as told to spyro by the cronicler) it's probably a dread wing but i'm not for sure. that doesn't look quite like one, but somewhat similar. i can't wait for the game!

How do you put up pictures?!

I'm pretty sure thats the Dark Master because he created the well of souls. And when spyro was there and went through that weird beam thing he turned black. So I think that the Dark Master went through that thing and turned black. So I think that was him in the background and not a Dreadwing.
