| SPYRO TAKES HIS JOURNEY TO THE BIG SCREEN
(October 31, 2007, BAARN) -- The Animation Picture Company has announced that it has entered into an option agreement with Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, to adapt the Spyro The Dragon® video game franchise as a feature film. The company's Dan Chuba, John Davis, Mark Dippe, Brian Manis and Ash Shah will produce, and the Altiere Brothers (Dr. Dolittle 4) have been tapped to adapt the screenplay from the franchise's The Legend of Spyro™ trilogy of games. The company is currently out to directors for the project. Spyro is a global gaming phenomenon, having generated over $525 million in sales and shipped over 20 million units world-wide since its introduction in 1998, making it one of the industry's most successful franchises. The story follows Spyro, a rare purple dragon of prophecy, on a voyage of self-discovery as he struggles to come to terms with his amazing potential, while finding himself embroiled in an epic struggle against an ancient evil. Raised by a family of dragonflies, Spyro discovers one day that he is not like his "twin brother" Sparx and sets off to find his place in the world. Meanwhile, the Dark Master has dispatched his minions to ensure that the purple dragon described in the ancient prophecies is destroyed before he can learn to harness his amazing potential and put a stop to the Dark Master's ultimate plans. Spyro, accompanied by his best friend Sparx, must seek out the legendary Elder Dragons to help him unlock the true "Dragon Within" and find the strength to battle the forces of the Dark Master. Plans are for a 3D CGI movie to be produced with production set to begin March of 2008. The Animation Picture Company was founded last year to produce digital entertainment. The Spyro movie will be the company's third feature film, following "Garfield Gets Real," its just-completed first production, co-produced with Garfield's creator Jim Davis and Paws, Inc. and the currently in-production "Garfield's Fun Fest." Company principal and ILM alum Mark Dippe is helming the Garfield projects. |
